Throughout the last decade or so, a great deal of attention has been spent on the development of software focused on end-user interface that engages the visitor enough, where they return to the site repeatedly. Although, there are countless software programs that provide various ways to engage the end-user to the point where they become frequent visitors, lack of planning leaves the audience wanting more and getting less. We all have access to programs or, have had access to programs, that can provide a professionally polished marketing tool when put into the correct hands.
There are times when a form of technology was intended to be interactive and fell extremely short of the desired goal due to, more than likely, a lack of planning.
The majority of the time interactive media falls short of keeping the audience engaged it usually has to do with the lack of thought or the failure to transfer the idea from concept to completion. These shortcomings are all the result of not applying the correct amount of planning needed to complete an interactive media project that is both interesting and easy to navigate.

It becomes clear the difficult nature of putting together a well thought out site when the Internet is explored. The number of poorly designed sites becomes overwhelmingly apparent as the depths of cyber space are explored in an effort to reach the information being sought after like a quest. Simple planning can easily counteract the epidemic of poorly designed media projects. Sketches and storyboards help with the design process, the combination of the two help put a form to thoughts related to the concept for the overall project.
These simple planning and preparation exercises can make the difference between well-planned media or unsuccessful media projects that go on to be forgotten.
