Why Designing Your Own Website is Much More Expensive Than You Think

Web design - do it yourself or hire a web designer?

Many people who would not class themselves as professional web designers">web designers, build their own websites, and are usually quite proud of how much money they save by designing their own websites.

Quite often when I speak to someone who has designed their own website, or is in the process of doing so - when I ask them to work out how many hours they've spent so far on designing their site, and how much they value an hour of their life to be worth, they start to realize that designing your own website is not always the less expensive option.

Time is the most valuable thing we have, you can never get any more time - not in this lifetime anyway. You can get more money, you cannot get more time. The only thing you CAN do, is to outsource certain things to other people, to give you more of your life back - to do the things that are truly priceless, spending time with your spouse, children, having fun, relaxing.

So when it comes to something as specialist as designing websites, personally I believe it's a mistake to waste hours of your life trying to do this yourself, when you can have it done in a fraction of the time, for a very affordable sum of money.

Not only this, but having a website designed by a professional will usually give you a website which looks & works far better than a DIY website would usually look & function. Lets face it, if you spend your time designing your own website, only to find at the end of it it doesn't look good, doesn't work well, doesn't convert traffic - you've completely wasted your time.

Most businesses don't need very expensive websites, so I'm not saying you need to go out and spend thousands - you can get great search engine friendly web design for a very affordable price, but if you are considering doing your own web design, just make sure you take into account the REAL cost of your web design, in terms of your time & effort, and the fact that this will be completely wasted if you realize in the end that you need to have it re-done by a professional.
